President Prabowo Subianto emphasized Indonesia’s dedication to safeguarding national interests, particularly the welfare of workers, in the face of growing global economic pressures and hardline stances from powerful countries. Speaking at the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB) at the Jakarta Convention Center, Prabowo acknowledged the challenges of economic negotiations, especially with the United States, but stressed the importance of maintaining a firm stance as the head of state.
In his speech, Prabowo recognized the current turbulent state of the world and highlighted Indonesia’s efforts to maintain a balanced, non-aligned position while respecting all nations and striving for good relations. He acknowledged the tough economic landscape characterized by negotiations with the U.S., a challenge not unique to Indonesia but faced by many countries worldwide.
Prabowo underlined his commitment to protecting Indonesian workers, particularly against the threat of mass layoffs, as a key responsibility. He stated that ensuring the well-being of Indonesian citizens and preventing companies from laying off workers are essential aspects of his duty in the economic sphere.
The President also addressed the scrutiny faced by the government, acknowledging that criticism, whether constructive or not, is a natural part of decision-making processes. While recognizing the importance of criticism and oversight, Prabowo expressed concern about relentless cynicism that undermines governmental efforts, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach.
Despite the obstacles, Prabowo reaffirmed his administration’s focus on promoting national resilience, safeguarding worker rights, and engaging in fair global interactions without compromising Indonesia’s sovereignty or the livelihoods of its people.
