President Prabowo Subianto from Indonesia paid a visit to Saudi Arabia on July 2–3, 2025, with the aim of enhancing cooperation to improve services for Indonesian pilgrims during their Hajj and Umrah journeys. During his visit, President Prabowo met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah to express gratitude for the Saudi government’s dedication to serving pilgrims not only from Indonesia but from around the world as well. The discussions between both parties emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and comfort of Indonesian pilgrims during their religious activities. There was a shared commitment to strengthen service quality for Indonesian pilgrims in future Hajj seasons to ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience.
Apart from focusing on Hajj-related matters, strategic agreements were made to deepen bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. The establishment of the Saudi–Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, co-chaired by the Crown Prince and President Prabowo, aimed at expanding cooperation in various key areas such as trade, investment, energy, and technology. The significant bilateral trade between the two countries, amounting to around USD 31.5 billion over the past five years, was acknowledged and efforts were made to further enhance it through private sector investments of approximately USD 27 billion. These investments are expected to create job opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in sectors like energy, industrial development, and environmentally sustainable technology.
Moreover, President Prabowo and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman highlighted the importance of cooperation in the health sector, particularly in meeting the medical needs of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Discussions also included the development of the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries, and the enhancement of the health workforce capacity. On an international level, both leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting peaceful conflict resolutions in the region and expressed their endorsement for a two-state solution for Palestine while emphasizing the role of international humanitarian organizations in promoting peace and stability.
The visit reaffirmed the strong and growing partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia across various sectors, showcasing their joint efforts to enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims and deepen cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
