The legendary band from Boston, The Lemonheads, makes a comeback after almost two decades of hiatus with their new single “Deep End”. This song marks the revival of the band formed in 1986 and serves as the opening track for their upcoming album titled ‘Love Chant’, their first original release since 2006.
“Deep End” is a result of a close collaboration between Evan Dando, the vocalist and central figure of The Lemonheads, and Australian musician Tom Morgan from the band Smudge. The two have had a strong musical relationship since the 1990s, and now they unite their creativity in this single.
“Deep End” also features special contributions from two big names in the indie music scene. Juliana Hatfield, a musician who has collaborated with Dando for a long time, provides backing vocals, while J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr. showcases his sharp and distinctive guitar playing. Both musicians even make a brief appearance in the music video for the song.
Directed by the Brazilian art collective Surreal Hotel Arts, the music video for “Deep End” was recorded in São Paulo. Shot in black and white, the video depicts Evan Dando walking along an endless sidewalk filled with surreal visuals—ranging from strange objects, mysterious figures, to landscapes that defy logic. These visuals seem to reflect the melancholic yet dreamy ambiance of the song itself.
“The filming process went very smoothly. The crew was amazing. The endless sidewalk scene really fits the mood of the song,” Dando expressed in his statement.
