Band alternative emo from Malang, Settleblaze, has released their debut single titled “Unrescued” which carries themes of sadness, loss, and deep disappointment. The song tells the inner struggle of someone who is in despair after being left by their lover. Despite trying to forget memories, they still hope for happiness for their ex-partner. The storyline is wrapped in an atmospheric melody that portrays emptiness, longing, and the breakdown of trust — as if a part of themselves is lost along with the end of the relationship.
Formed by Bumi (drums), Bobi (guitar), and Evan (guitar/vocals), Settleblaze later invited Aldita (vocals) to strengthen their formation. The band’s name reflects their journey’s philosophy: “settle” (seeking harmony in a complicated life) and “blaze” (the burning spirit of creation that never fades).
Evan, one of the founders, explains, “Our songs are a reflection of real emotions — not just venting, but an effort to voice what is often buried.” “Unrescued” marks a turning point in their creativity. Settleblaze reveals that this song was born from observations of stories from close people.
While Bobi adds, “We combine intense guitar dynamics with progressive rhythms, creating tension parallel to the lyrics.” Settleblaze’s music is inspired by the exploration of bands like Explosions in the Sky, who masterfully build instrumental narratives, and honest lyrics ala Movements. However, they add a personal touch through Evan and Aldita’s vocal harmonies that blend in with melodic guitar riffs.
Bumi, the drummer, emphasizes that collaboration is the key: “Every background has a role. The drum not only maintains tempo but also thickens the emotional atmosphere.” Regarding the creative process, Evan admits that “Unrescued” was one of the most challenging songs because it had to balance honest lyrics without sounding cliche. “We revised some vocal parts to be more ‘raw’, like someone who is truly heartbroken,” he explains.
As a result, the song successfully presents an authentic impression — from the melancholic verses to the emotionally charged crescendo in the bridge. Moving forward, Settleblaze plans to release an EP that delves into more complex emotional journeys. “This is just the beginning. There are still many stories of ups and downs, self-growth, and the effort to find the meaning of happiness that we want to share,” concludes Aldita.
