Jerones 343 Menyentak dengan “Still Lives, Still Sucks”

Jerones 343, band punk rock veteran from Pontianak, is back with a full debut album, Still Lives, Still Sucks, which was released on August 17, 2024 through Enamempat Records. This album is a true testament that the punk rock spirit never dies, with sharp lyrics, thunderous music, and unstoppable energy.

Still Lives, Still Sucks is a loud statement about the reality of life, social injustice, and individual struggles in the midst of the onslaught of time. Jerones 343 does not hesitate to voice their concerns through raw and uncompromising music. Every song in this album is a hard blow, a scream of rebellion that awakens awareness.

One standout song in this album is “Semalam Di Pontianak,” an ode to their hometown. This song, released alongside the album, is a flashback to a youthful past full of enthusiasm, irreplaceable friendships, and memories that never fade.

“Semalam Di Pontianak” is not just a song, it’s an experience. Vocalist Wendy Andika and guitarist Rudi Dian created this song as a tribute to Pontianak, the city that shaped them. Its straightforward lyrics and pounding melody will transport listeners back to dusty streets, underground gigs, and irreplaceable friendships.

“This song is about celebrating Pontianak, reminiscing the wild past, and acknowledging that this city will always be a part of us,” said Wendy. “It’s a song for everyone who has felt the burning longing for home.”

The lyric video for this song further reinforces the message of nostalgia and longing contained within it. The strong visuals in black and white, which are a personal documentation of their journey, feature a collage of the underground events they’ve attended.

Formed in 1998 under the name GPK, Jerones 343 is a true testament that the punk rock spirit will always burn brightly. They adopted a new, sarcastic name as a form of resistance against the social stigma attached to the punk community at that time. Inspired by legendary punk/hardcore bands like Black Flag, Minor Threat, and Bad Brains, Jerones 343 has carved a long history in the Indonesian underground music scene. They have performed on various stages, from narrow alleyways to big festivals, and continue to voice their concerns through the works they create.
